About The Book

In this work, I have endeavored to engage in an exegetical study of God's Word in the book of Ephesians as any normal commentary would, however, with an additional and intentional focus. I noticed over the years that when God burdens believers with a calling or narrow ministry focus, He often also allows them a unique insight into and desire to identify what Scripture teaches about that ministry and how it may apply to the execution and theology of that ministry. A biblical counselor, theologian, youth pastor, worship leader, executive director of a Christian homeless shelter, pregnancy counselor, or evangelist will tend to notice passages of Scripture that the rest of us have read but were unable to connect to a particular ministry until someone whom God had raised up for that ministry pointed them out to us. I began to see that the Holy Spirit had a track record of allowing verses and nuances to jump off the page for men and women in their normal reading of God's Word whom God had called to various kinds of ministry. These believers then shared their insights with the rest of us, leaving us wondering how we did not see them.

In this first installment and in those to come of The Evangelism Application Commentary Series (TEACS) it is my goal to study a book of the Bible in its own right, but also in view of how it may apply either in primary or secondary ways to the calling of all believers toward evangelism and apologetics. We will also address and contrast God's Word with false teachings and objections to biblical doctrine and the Christian faith including but not limited to: false religions, cults, various "-isms," unbiblical perspectives, general objections, erroneous evangelism methodology, and more. As a particular emphasis however, we will spend time comparing the teachings and specific interpretation of passages contained in the book of the Bible we are studying as taught and applied by Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, and in interaction with garden-variety unbelievers and unbiblical worldviews in America. I spend time on these first two cults because they tend to be the ones most Christians are afraid of, are prone to mishandle, and know the least about. I spend time on more "ordinary" unbelieving objections and bringing out the manifestations and sinfulness of sin, because so many of us have been softened by the comfort of the church culture and need a dose of reality.
