In der Kiefer- und Gesichtschirurgie gibt es eine Vielzahl von Arten und Methoden, um je nach Bedarf Retention, Stabilisierung und Immobilisierung zu erreichen. Die Probleme der Retention von Kiefer- und Gesichtsprothesen müssen von Prothetikern gelöst werden. Daher muss bei der Gestaltung einer Prothese die Retention der Prothese im Gesicht umfassend berücksichtigt werden. Diese Arbeit ist eine umfassende Zusammenstellung der verschiedenen Aspekte und Modalitäten, die bis heute im Bereich der Retention in der Kiefer- und Gesichtsprothetik verfügbar sind.
