Siguiendo con la serie de obras de Juan A. Jorge dedicadas a la exposición de los principales tratados de teología dogmática, el presente está dedicado al estudio de las realidades del más allá, de ultratumba, tanto las de la escatología intermedia como las de la final.

Se siguen aquí los mismos criterios de investigación que se utilizan para los tratados ya publicados ("Dios Uno y Trino", "Cristología"), a saber, el delicado respeto por el auténtico Magisterio de la Iglesia, la consideración de las fuentes de la Revelación en su integridad, la teología clásica segura, sobre todo la de Santo Tomás de Aquino, y los alcances que la teología y metafísica del amor de A. Gálvez aportan a los temas propios de los misterios del más allá. Se exponen además, desde estas perspectivas y se critican cuando corresponde, las modernas exposiciones y teorías hoy muy en boga, que se alejan con frecuencia de esos parámetros seguros, de tal manera que el lector pueda tener una información completa tanto de la doctrina segura católica, como de las desviaciones que se están proponiendo hoy en día. Esta mirada a la teología contemporánea y a la cultura del momento se hace más necesaria, si cabe, que en otros tratados, pues los ataques a la doctrina tradicional en el saber que aquí se investiga son más intensos que en otros tratados. La influencia de la teología neo--modernista y protestante ha sido muy fuerte. Y es necesario conocerla y desvelarla para asegurar la fe de siempre de la Iglesia.

Por otro lado, los temas propios de este tratado son de máxima actualidad, tanto para conocer el pensamiento de los que los niegan siguiendo criterio de en un mundo que ha decidido que solo existe un Paraíso en esta Tierra, como para los católicos de la Iglesia peregrina y militante que caminan hacia la Patria definitiva, sostenidos en su esperanza por la fe verdadera en el más allá y en la justa retribución de un Dios que es Amor.

El libro está dividido en tres secciones, precedidas de un capítulo introductorio dedicado a a dar una visión global de la escatología en el momento actual de la Iglesia y del mundo.
