Essays in Literary Criticismexplores how literature has been interpreted, debated and theorised across time. This book traces the development of literary criticism from classical notions of mimesis and decorum, through Romantic expressions of imagination and individuality, to modern engagements with language. It also includes a selection of essays from the Indian subcontinent. Bringing together diverse critics, historical periods and theoretical approaches, the book emphasises the plurality of perspectives that shape literary inquiry. It demonstrates how each framework offers distinctive insights into the interpretation of texts and our understanding of literature. The book serves as a comprehensive resource for deepening readers' appreciation of literary works and the ever-evolving theoretical landscapes through which they are read.
