Essays on Indian Topics is a collection of writings that explores various aspects of India, focusing on its political, social, and cultural conditions during the British colonial period. The essays, often critical of British rule, discuss subjects such as Indian nationalism, British exploitation, and the struggle for self-governance. They aim to highlight the complexities of colonialism, examining the impact of British policies on India's economy, society, and people. Through these writings, the author emphasizes the importance of India's independence and advocates for reforms, calling for a deeper understanding of Indian issues within the context of imperialism.

Theodore Beck (1859–1899) was a British Quaker and educationalist who made significant contributions to the development of Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, later Aligarh Muslim University. Educated at the University of London and Cambridge, he became Principal in 1883, succeeding Henry George Impey Siddons. Beck was instrumental in promoting Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s vision for a Muslim university and worked tirelessly to raise funds for the Sir Syed Memorial Fund. He also edited the Aligarh Institute Gazette and founded the Siddons Union Club. Beck's health declined during his fundraising efforts, and he passed away in Simla in 1899.
