Este libro ofrece una caracterizaci�n cient�fica exhaustiva de la estructura, diversidad, din�mica del carbono y estado de conservaci�n de un bosque muy h�medo del Pac�fico colombiano, uno de los sistemas ecol�gicos m�s singulares del Neotr�pico. A partir de un muestreo sistem�tico basado en transectos y subparcelas, se analizaron 668 individuos arb�reos (DAP >= 10 cm), lo que permiti� cuantificar la composici�n flor�stica, la dominancia, la mezcla de especies, la distribuci�n diam�trica, la estratificaci�n vertical y los patrones espaciales mediante �ndices de Morisita, Green y mingling. El estudio integra m�tricas modernas de diversidad (n�meros de Hill, Shannon, Simpson), rarefacci�n basada en tama�o de muestra y estimadores no param�tricos como Chao1, proporcionando una aproximaci�n s�lida para evaluar la completitud del inventario. Los resultados evidencian que el bosque est� estructurado por un conjunto reducido de especies de gran tama�o que concentran m�s del 60 % del carbono, mientras que un amplio repertorio de especies poco abundantes contribuye al mantenimiento funcional del ecosistema. Se estimaron 310.5 Mg ha⁻ de biomasa a�rea y 74.5 Mg ha⁻ de biomasa subterr�nea, equivalentes a 181 Mg ha⁻ de carbono total, valores representativos de bosques tropicales maduros del Choc� biogeogr�fico. La evaluaci�n del estado de conservaci�n, basada en la Lista Roja de la UICN, mostr� que la mayor�a de las especies corresponde a la categor�a de Preocupaci�n Menor, aunque se registraron especies Vulnerables de alta relevancia ecol�gica, como Aniba perutilis y Humiriastrum procerum, cuya presencia subraya la importancia del bosque como refugio de biodiversidad. La obra discute adem�s los factores que regulan la din�mica forestal, las implicaciones para el ciclo del carbono y los desaf�os de conservaci�n en una regi�n marcada por presiones extractivas y expansi�n de actividades agroindustriales. Con un enfoque integrador que combina ecolog�a cuantitativa, an�lisis estructural y criterios de conservaci�n, este libro constituye un aporte riguroso y oportuno para investigadores, profesionales ambientales y responsables de la gesti�n sostenible de los bosques tropicales.
