Raymond W. Swan was born and raised in New Orleans, La. He attended Tulane University where he received a B.A. in psychology and an M.S.W. in social work. He received his doctorate in social work from the University of Southern California. He served as bilingual overseas representative to Peace Corps in Central America, overseeing hundreds of volunteer social workers, teachers, and nurses. He taught for twenty-six years at the Tulane University School of Social Work, retiring as professor emeritus of social work. His specialties included psychotherapy, sex and marital therapy, and parent education. He was the director of the doctoral program of social work for many years and headed the Wisner Center for the Study of Family and Children. His new book, Explore Your Options: A Personal Guide to Self-Help Psychotherapy reflects his many years in practice and teaching. Known for his work as a psychotherapist and in sex and marital therapy, he was featured on an ABC program hosted by the mustachioed muckraker, Geraldo Rivera, after a well-known evangelist from Louisiana was caught in an unethical encounter. Dr. Swan has just planted 30 fruit trees on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and hopes he will live to see them bear fruit.
