Die Deutsche Gesellschaft ftir Thorax-, Herz- und GefaBchirurgie hat im Rahmen ihrer bisherigen Jahrestagungen jeweils Fortbildungsveranstaltungen fUr Kardiotechniker in enger Kooperation mit der Deutschen Gesellschaft ftir Kardiotechnik e.V. durchge- ftihrt. Diese Sitzungen wurden gewohnlich dem Tagungsleiter bzw. einem seiner Mit- arbeiter zur organisatorischen Durchftihrung mit dem leitenden Kardiotechniker der Abteilung tibertragen. Die bisherigen Sitzungen zeichneten sich durch aktuelle The- men mit kompetenten Referenten aus, so daB sie immer ein ganz auBerordentliches Interesse nicht nur bei den Kardiotechnikern, sondern auch bei den tibrigen Tagungs- teilnehmern fanden. Infolge dieses groBen Echos haben wir uns entschlossen, die Beitrage 1990 zu sammeln und mit Hilfe der Referenten zu veroffentlichen. Das Titelblatt reprasentiert das Plakat zur 19. Jahrestagung 1990. Wir verdanken es Melissa Mayer-Galbraith und Thomas Sebening, Mtinchen. Nach einer Ubersicht tiber die Auswirkungen des Einsatzes der Herz-Lungen-Ma- schine mit Perfusat und Hypothermie auf den Organismus, betrachtet unter physiologi- schen Aspekten, wird ein uns heute besser bekannter Funktionskreis mit dem humora- len System und Mediatoren angesprochen. Erganzt wurde das Kapitel zur extrakorporalen Zirkulation im Erwachsenenalter. Ein weiterer Beitrag ist der EKZ bei Neugeborenen und Sauglingen vorbehalten und gibt die wesentlichen Details fUr diese schwierige Altersgruppe wieder. Die unter Ganzkorper-Hypothermie-Bedingungen eingeleitete und durchgefUhrte Myokardpro- tektion mittels Kardioplegischer Losung nach Bretschneider zeigt einige Ergebnisse der sogenannten "high volume cardioplegia" auf. Mit dem EinfluB der Narkose auf die zerebrale Durchblutung und der Primar-Volu- men-Zusammensetzung auf das extrakorporale Lungenwasser werden die praktischen Aspekte abgerundet. Ein weiteres Kapitel beschliftigt sich mit der akuten Niereninsuf- fizienz und ihrer BeeinfluBbarkeit.
