Fair Em is a play attributed to William Shakespeare and Thomas Middleton, first published in 1631. The play tells the story of the beautiful and virtuous Em, who is kidnapped by the villainous Duke of Burgundy and taken to his castle. There, she is forced to work as a scullery maid while the Duke tries to seduce her. Meanwhile, Em's lover, the brave and loyal Valentinian, sets out to rescue her with the help of a band of outlaws. The play is full of twists and turns, with mistaken identities, disguises, and narrow escapes, culminating in a final showdown between Valentinian and the Duke. While the authorship of Fair Em is uncertain, many scholars believe that Shakespeare had a hand in writing the play, particularly in the scenes involving the outlaws. The play is notable for its strong female protagonist and its themes of love, loyalty, and justice.TROTTER. Yfaith, I aim at the fairest. Ah, Em, sweet Em!
