Den svenska science fiction-litteraturens historia är ett till största delen outforskat fält. Föregångare som Sam J. Lundwall och Jerry Määttä har gjort betydande insatser, men detta är den första stora genomgången av dess hela historia från 1600-talet fram till början av millenniet. En historik som också tjänar som lexikon.

Andra bandet av tre behandlar perioden från 1940- till och med 1960-talet. En period av enorm teknisk och social utveckling -- till det bättre och sämre -- som återspeglas i litteraturen. Dystopierna och utopierna är många, tekniska drömmar blandas med tekniska mardrömmar. Under brinnande världskrig fick svenskar möjlighet att hoppas på en bättre framtid genom starten av Jules Verne-Magasinet, som formade en hel generation av svenska sf-författare med Sture Lönnerstrand och Dénis Lindbohm i spetsen. Totalitarism och katastrofala krig fick Karin Boye att skriva Kallocain och Harry Martinson att dikta Aniara. Och med Sputnik och månfärderna ändrades synen på genren. Det som tidigare hade betraktats som verklighetsfrånvända drömmar närmade sig nu verkligheten. En insikt som förmedlades till svenska folket av "rymdjournalisten" Eugen Semitjov, som också var sf-författare och serietecknare.

Detta storverk i tre band har under många år efterforskats och skrivits av Bertil Falk (född 1933), själv en levande legend inom svensk fantastik. Det var han som 1969 återupplivade Jules Verne-Magasinet, som några år senare övertogs av Sam J. Lundwall. Han debuterade som författare redan 1946 i Stockholms-Tidningen med sf-novellen "Tripp i rymden". Som journalist arbetade han sedan vid bland annat Kvällsposten och på TV3: s nyhetsredaktion i London. År 2016 rönte han stor uppmärksamhet i Indien genom sin bok Feroze -- the Forgotten Gandhi.
