Family Law in Louisiana is designed for use in law school courses that involve the study of the distinctive family law of Louisiana, a law that represents a unique blend of civilian and Anglo-American legal principles. Topics covered include prerequisites for and the nullity of marriage; the dissolution of marriage; the incidents of divorce, such as interspousal alimony, child custody, and child support; filiation (paternity); parental responsibility and authority; care for children outside of marriage (tutorship); jurisdiction and choice of law; and constitutional constraints on state regulation of family relations.
Carroll, Andrea B.: - ANDREA ("ANDI") BEAUCHAMP CARROLLAndi Carroll is the Associate Dean for Student & Academic Affairs and the Donna W. Lee Professor of Family Law at the LSU Law Center. Before joining the LSU Law faculty, Professor Carroll clerked for The Honorable W. Eugene Davis of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and practiced at the Dallas law firm of Baker Botts. In 2003, Professor Carroll returned home to LSU Law, where she has been teaching and writing about family law, community property, and property for two decades.Professor Carroll is the author of more than a dozen books and articles in her field, including the first and only comprehensive treatise on Louisiana family law. She has recently been published in the Cambridge University Press and her work on comparative law was honored at the Stanford-Yale Junior Faculty Forum.Professor Carroll is a qualified family law, divorce, and custody mediator, and has served as an expert in family litigation nationally. She is particularly active in law reform in Louisiana, as a Member of the Council of the Louisiana State Law Institute and the Institute's Property and Obligations committees. Professor Carroll has led successful legislative reforms in almost every area of family law. As Reporter of the Law Institute's Marriage and Persons Committee, Professor Carroll continues to work to improve the law related to marriage and the family.
Davrados, Nikolaos A.: - NIKOLAOS A. DAVRADOSNikolaos A. Davrados, PhD, is the Curry Family Professor of Law and Assistant Director of the Center of Civil Law Studies and International Programs at the LSU Law Center. Professor Davrados practiced law in the areas of international business transactions and arbitration and served as a legal advisor to the Council of the European Union. He then began his academic career as a teaching fellow in law at the University of Athens (Greece) School of Law and was later an assistant professor of law at the University of Nicosia (Cyprus) School of Law where he continues to serve as visiting professor. Prior to joining the LSU Law faculty, he taught at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law as an associate professor of law.Professor Davrados has taught and written extensively in the areas of civil law, comparative law, conflict of laws, and international business transactions in the United States and Europe. He is a regular presenter at conferences hosted by the International Academy of Comparative Law, the Academy of European Law, and the Southeastern Association of Law Schools. He serves on the Council of the Louisiana State Law Institute as well as several of its committees and is a member of the editorial board of several peer-reviewed law journals.
