Hierin worden voorwaardelijke competenties voor het adequaat omgaan met geneesmiddelen beschreven, waaronder:

  • medische en farmacologische kennis,
  • vaardigheid in het toedienen van geneesmiddelen en in het signaleren van problemen rond geneesmiddelgebruik,
  • vaardigheid in het kunnen communiceren over geneesmiddelengebruik.

Farmacotherapie voor de zorgprofessional is bedoeld voor de Nederlandse praktijk. Het boek bestaat uit drie delen, die elkaar aanvullen maar ook zelfstandig gebruikt kunnen worden.

Deel A gaat over de algemene farmacologie en farmacotherapie, met wet- en regelgeving rond geneesmiddelen, het gebruik van betrouwbare bronnen, het veilig omgaan met geneesmiddelen en het ontstaan van ongewenste neveneffecten.

Deel B behandelt de verschillende geneesmiddelgroepen en zelfzorgmiddelen. Het farmacologisch effect wordt uitgelegd ter ondersteuning van het klinisch redeneren. De verschillende middelen zijn overzichtelijk weergegeven in tabellen en bij elke hoofdgroep worden belangrijke aandachtspunten bij het gebruik beschreven.

Deel C bevat farmacotherapeutische casuïstiek gebaseerd op veelvoorkomende situaties in de praktijk.

De digitale leeromgeving biedt deeplinks naar nuttige websites, samenvattingen, oefenvragen en oefeningen voor het lezen van een recept en het opzoeken van informatie in betrouwbare bronnen over geneesmiddeleninformatie.


Marike de Ruiter heeft ervaring als trainer voor de nascholing van apothekersassistenten en is sinds 2008 docent aan de faculteit Gezondheid van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam. Zij heeft pathologie- en farmacologieonderwijs verzorgd aan de opleidingen fysiotherapie en verpleegkunde en heeft het honoursprogramma geneeskunde opgezet voor preklinisch onderwijs aan excellente studenten op het niveau van de bachelor geneeskunde.
