Umfang und Gewicht der wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse befinden sich in einem bestandigen EntwicklungsprozeB. B. die Festigkeitslehre. - In diesem Buch konnen dann, geordnet und abgewogen, Ergebnisse der Forschung, die in wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften verstreut sind, aufgenommen, und es konnen die bewahrten altbekannten Dinge mit modernen Mitteln der Darstellung beschrieben werden, damit sie gestraffter und fiir den heutigen Menschen verstandlicher auf- treten. Deshalb wird es durchaus als Fortschritt anzusehen sein, wenn man in einem neuen Buch nicht nur durchweg Neues bringt, sondern, soweit man beim Alten bleibt, diesem dann neue Aspekte gibt. Als der Herausgeber der Reihe der Konstruktionsbiicher, Herr Professor Dr. K. KOLLMANN, mit der Bitte an mich herantrat, in dem oben angedeuteten Sinn eine Festigkeitslehre zu schreiben, bin ich einer solchen Anregung gerne gefolgt. Ich konnte bei der Abfassung des Manuskriptes auf Konzepte meiner Vorlesung iiber dieses Thema zuriickgreifen und die Erfahrungen verarbeiten, die ich eben im Laufe der Vorlesung und im Kontakt mit der Industrie gewonnen habe.
