Fionna Harwood finds some of those answers for herself when she is thrown into a battle against a fallen angel named Lucy as she attempts to save her sister, the world, and the entire universe.
All religions stem from truth but they all start from the same place. The planet Heaven. God, the king of Heaven, and his fellow angels gave life to humans and gave the earth to them. The angels decreed that the humans should be left to make their own decisions, they should have complete free will. One angel didn't like these terms, Lucy, God's sister. She left Heaven and created her own planet, Hellion.
Now Lucy plans to kidnap all of humankind and turn them into slaves to help her become powerful. Lucy wants to be the most powerful entity in the universe. Most important to her is becoming more powerful than her brother, God. She is jealous of his ability to create life and the power he holds on Heaven.
Heaven getting word of Lucy's plan sends angels to Earth to rescue as many as they can before Lucy takes them all. They manage to save some, around 60,000. This means there are billions of people that must be saved.
Enter Fionna Harwood. Fionna is a 36 year old women still trying to figure life out. She lives with her sister in a small brownstone with her dog Novah. Fionna is approached by an angel while out for her daily walk with Novah and learns of Lucy's heinous plan. She immediately accepts the angel's help and accepts the sphere that will take her to Heaven. Quickly Fionna realizes she should have waited to enter the sphere, she should have saved her sister first!
After learning her sister is a captive on Hellion she becomes hellbent on saving her sister, Fionna dives headfirst into training on Heaven. Quickly she learns it's not just her sister she must save, but every human Lucy has taken captive. The worst part? She doesn't have a lot of time to do it. Hellion changes humans slowly, corrupting anything good within them, and there is no stopping it. Eventually it changes them so much they choose to join Lucy. This means Fionna must race against the clock and prepare as quickly as possible for a mission to Hellion. She finds her people and builds a strong team with the help of God and the other angels. It's not long before she is traversing the hot sludgy ground on Hellion along with thousands of others. Their goal? Make it to the center of Lucy's domain and hand out as many spheres as possible in only 2 days. Once done they must leave before heading back for the final rescue mission.
