First Contact Protocol is a hard-hitting novel that transcends fantasy and answers the unspoken question, what impact would first contact have on our core values, theology, and basic social structures? In the novel, human nature itself is challenged to persevere and overcome our own inadequacies. The Intrepid's mission is to enter the Perseus Arm and explore the planet Fardarra, which holds a strong possibility of life similar to earth. Focused on their mission the crew realizes only to late that they have encroached into the sovereign space of the Zin-tar. Seen as a threat by Jak-Tor, the commander of the Zin-tar fleet, the Intrepid is attacked and overwhelmed. Many crewmen die, many are taken captive and a few survive. It is through the ordeal of these men and women that the story unfolds.

Earth is shocked and shaken by the news of the Intrepid. The protocols regarding first contact with an alien race are proven to be antiquated and severely lacking as panic, dissension and a destabilization of the world parliament ensues. Ancient religions threaten a rebirth of the jihad, adding fervor to the already explosive situation. The social order of the Zin-tar is shaken as well when a ruthless cabinet member launches a sinister plot to undermine and discredit their ancient political structure, a governing body unaccustomed to and ill prepared for such an assault.

Events become ever more complicated as political and corporate leaders on earth see economic opportunity for expeditions in the new alien territory. Hungry for financial gain and universal power, these leaders plan to instigate an interplanetary war.

It falls upon the crew of the Intrepid to defy these forces and prevent a war in which humanity itself would be crushed. The main character of the tale, first officer Robert Tenant of the Intrepid comes to rely upon the loving support of systems analyst Sara Johnson. Together they steadfastly lead the crew through one ordeal after another.

John Edward Metroka Jr.'s First Contact Protocol explores the vast political and ethical conflicts that most assuredly would arise when humanity makes first contact with an advanced alien race. Grounded in scientific fact, this tale ensures readers are presented with a realistic scenario that could easily play out in our near future.
Imbedded in the story is the suggestion that mankind is on the cusp of a generational leap, a leap leading to the next book, Redemption.
