He interviews the myriad people who linger in the shadows of players' dressing rooms - the middle men, agents, 'friends' of IPL franchise owners - placing bets on games and enticing cricketers to reveal inside information for money, sex or, worse, fear for their lives. Also under the spotlight are the roles of the police and the government, who have, at best, made patchy efforts to stem the rot.

About The Author

Shantanu Guha Ray is a Wharton-trained journalist who has spent a little over three decades in the profession, specializing in investigations, human-interest features and corporate analyses. He has reported on the billion-dollar coal scam in 2011 and the Delhi airport scandal in 2012 for India Today; in 2007 he, along with a colleague, had busted the racket of cervical cancer jabs that killed many in rural India - for which he received the Laadli Award. He received the Overseas Press Club of America's award in 2012 for being part of a global probe on dangers of asbestos conducted by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. He has also been awarded for reporting on water-related issues in 2010 by the globally acclaimed Wash Group; he received the Ramnath Goenka award in 2014. He had strayed into sports journalism in 2001 when he joined ESPN Star Sports, and had a ringside view of cricket, the players and the officials. His first book, Mahi, a biography of M.S. Dhoni, was published in 2013. He lives in Delhi with his wife, daughter and two dogs.
