Lucrarea de fata incearca sa faca o tratare sistematica a principalelor aspecte ale foneticii limbii romane (literare) bazata pe sistemul GRAALAN (Grammar Abstract Language). Volumul I: Cuprinde descrierea (sintetica) a sistemului GRAALAN folosit pentru studierea aspectelor fonetice ale limbii romane. Este descrisa mai intai baza teoretica a limbajului GRAALAN, si anume: arborii de tip atribut valoare (AVT - Attribute Value Tree), arborii de dependente (DT - Dependency Tree), gramatici generative si de dependente (GDG - Generative Dependency Grammar, GDGF - Generative Dependency Grammar with Features), logici tetravalente. Pe baza acestor notiuni teoretice este construit metalimbajul GRAALAN. Nu toate elementele acestui metalimbaj se folosesc in tratarea aspectelor fonetice ale limbii romane. Mai exact, in tratarea fonetica sunt implicate (si descrise in lucrarea de fata) urmatoarele sectiuni GRAALAN: alfabetul, regulile de despartire in silabe, morfologia, lexiconul, regulile de flexiune, formele de flexiune. Cu toate acestea, pentru a avea o viziune completa asupra sistemului GRAALAN, este prezentata si o descriere sumara a sintaxei si a corespondentelor intre doua limbi. (Meta)limbajul GRAALAN, fiind el insusi un limbaj (de programare) de tip declarativ are si o serie de facilitati specifice cum ar fi marcourile si mesajele care sunt de asemenea descrise. Volumul II, Volumul III: Aceste doua volume contin Dictionarul morfologic si fonetic al limbii romane (aproximativ 80.000 de cuvinte). Fiecare cuvant este reprezentat prin forma sa in alfabet normal (inclusiv despartirea in silabe in alfabet normal), forma sa in alfabet fonetic (inclusiv despartirea sa in silabe in alfabet fonetic) precum si caracterizarea sa morfologica (categorii morfologice si valori de categorii morfologice asociate). Voumul IV: Acest volum este format din doua parti. Prima parte contine Dictionarul silabelor limbii romane (aproximativ 12.000 de silabe). Pentru fiecare silaba este data forma ei in alfabet normal, forma ei in alfabet fonetic si exemple (in alfabet normal si fonetic) pentru situatiile in care silaba respectiva apare pe prima pozitie a cuvantulu, pe o pozitie mediana si respectiv pe o pozitie finala. A doua parte contine un Dictionar de rime al limbii romane (aproximativ 80.000 de cuvinte). Pentru fiecare rima este data forma ei in alfabet normal, forma ei in alfabet fonetic si o lista de cuvinte (in alfabet normal) potrivite cu acea rima.
