Die Erkenntnis, daB groBere Forschungsvorhaben in der Regel nicht von Einzelpersonen durchzufUhren sind, ist nicht neu. Dabei ist es nicht allein der Arbeits- und Organisationsauf- wand bei Vorbereitung, DurchfUhrung und Auswertung von empi- rischen Untersuchungen, der den Einzelnen Uberlasten wUrde. Uns wurde bei unserer Zusammenarbeit immer wieder deutlich, wie wesentlich das Gesprach Uber die jeweils akuten Probleme dazu beitragt, daB zunachst nur diffuse Ideen zu UberprUfba- ren Hypothesen konkretisiert werden, daB aus unklaren Vorstel- lungen brauchbare Konzepte werden und daB der Einzelne die mo- ralische UnterstUtzung bekommt "durchzuhalten". Erster AnstoB fUr das Vorhaben war die Frage nach der Entste- hung von Einstellungen im SozialisationsprozeB. Von dem im Herbst 1972 aufgestellten Forschungsplan blieb allerdings bei naherer Beschaftigung mit der Materie nur wenig Ubrig. Das in langen Diskussionen von den Autoren entwickelte Konzept der Orientierung erwies sich als tragfahig und fUhrte zu Verschie- bungen und Umakzentuierungen in Fragestellung und Hypothesen- bildung. Nach AbschluB der Erhebungen und der Auswertung der Ergebnisse wUrden wir auch heute wieder manches anders machen. Wie gesagt: Allein kann Forschung groBeren AusmaBes nicht be- trieben werden! Unser Dank gilt allen, die uns mit Rat und Tat und gutem Willen in den vergangenen zweieinhalb Jahren unter- stUtzt haben. An erster Stelle ist der Minister fUr Wissenschaft und Forschung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen zu nennen, von dem wir eine groBzUgige finanzielle Forschungsforderung erhielten. Herr Ministerialrat LEMMER verdient es, namentlich erwahnt zu werden, da durch seine freundliche Hilfe manche bUrokratische Klippe Uberwunden werden konnte.
