Die Beitrage des Buches "Fortschritte der Echokardiographie" basieren auf Vortra gen, die auf einem wissenschaftlichen Kongress im Februar 1985 in Mainz gehalten wurden. Der Kongress wurde dankenswerterweise durch die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Echokardiographie der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Herz- und Kreislaufforschung unterstutzt. Zu den Hauptthemen - Funktionsdiagnostik des Herzens, Kontrastecho kardiographie, transosophageale Echokardiographie und Dopplerechokardiogra phie - wurden wissenschaftliche Beitrage geliefert. Im ersten Teil des Buches steht die Funktionsdiagnostik des linken Ventrikels im Vordergrund. Neue Ergebnisse der Computerverarbeitung von Echokardiogrammen werden vorgelegt. Vergleichende Studien zu szintigraphischen Methoden schliessen sich an. Einen breiten Raum nehmen Arbeiten zu Normalwerten sowohl fur das Kindes- als auch Erwachsenenalter ein. Die Normalwerte bilden die Grundlage zur Klassifikation erhobener ech kardiographischer Daten. Von allgemeinem Interesse ist sicherlich die Behandlung der Frage nach herzchirurgischen Eingriffen ohne vorherige Katheterdiagnostik, was fur die Zukunft von grosser Bedeutung sein durfte. Die Kontrastechokardiographie hat einen festen Platz in der Diagnostik der Trikuspi dalinsuffizienz und der Shuntdiagnostik bei angeborenen Vitien. Uber die Entwick lung eines neuen Kontrastmittels mit hoher Reproduzierbarkeit wird berichtet. Die Anwendung der Kontrastechokardiographie zur Analyse der Myokardperfusion und damit zur Infarktgrossenbestimmung im Tierexperiment wird dargelegt. Erste Erfah rungen mit dem neuen Echokontrastmittel in Phase 1 und 2 werden vorgestellt. Von klinischem Interesse ist die Abhandlung der Frage nach einem moglichen Ersatz der linksventrikularen Angiographie durch die Echoventrikulographie, z. B. bei beste hender Kontrastmittelallergie, schlechter linksventrikularer Funktion bei Klappen vitien, Patienten mit Niereninsuffizienz und bestehender Hyperthyreose. Ein "neues Fenster zum Herzen" eroffnet die transosophageale Echokardiographie."
