Vor etwa 20 Jahren ist das Buch yon H. J. SCHV: VIACHER: "Chemische Gas- reaktionen" im Verlag von THEODOR S'l'EI: NKOPFF (Dresden und Leipzig) er- schienen. Es hat die bis dahin gesammelten experimentcllen Ergebnisse der Kinetik homogener Gasreaktionen kritisch und knapp zusammengefaDt und 'Vege zur theoretischen Behandlung chemischer Reaktionen aufgezeigt. Was von del' damaligen Literatur im SCHUlITACHERSehen Bueh nicht berueksieh- tigt wurde, hat mcist auch spiiter keine Bedeutung erlangt. 'Vahrend del' vergangenen zwei Jahrzehnte hat die Reaktionskinetik auch auf dcm Gebiet del' homogenen Gasreaktionen bedeutende Ergebnisse erzielt, obwohl die Entwieklung durch den Zweiten Weltkrieg nicht gleiehmaDig war. Ober diese Fortsehritte wurden in del' angelsachsischen und sowjetischen Literatur zusammenfassende Beriehte veroffentlicht, so von LAIDLER, FROST und PEARSON, yon TROTlITAN-DICKENSON, sowie von STEACIE, SElITENOV, KONDRAT, JEW und BENSOK. Del' gegenwartige Band wiinseht dem deutschsprachigen Leserkreis ein Spiegel dieser Entwieklung zu sein und die Fortsehritte zusammenzufassen. 1m Gegensatz zu den oben erwahnten Werken ist es nieht das Ziel dieses Berichtes, die mehr oder weniger bekannten Grundbegriffe und Reaktionen zu behandeln, vielmehr mochte er sich bescheiden, einen Blick auf die seit 1938 gewonnenen Erkenntnisse zu werfen. Del' stoffliche Inhalt baut Rich also auf dem SCHUlITACHERSehen Buch auf. Das zu behandelnde Material ist auch so umfangreich. Verniinftige Grell- zen waren bei der Auswahl des Stoffes im Auge zu behalten. So wurden die photochemischen, im allgemeinen die strahlungschemischen Vorgange und die lsotopenreaktionen nicht mitaufgenommen, oder nur dann, wenn deren Ergebnisse zur Aufklarung der Mechanismen homogener thermischer Ga - reaktionen beizutragen schienen.
