Forty-Two Years Amongst The Indians And Eskimo is a memoir written by Beatrice Batty in 1893. The book chronicles her experiences living amongst various Indigenous communities in Canada, including the Cree and Inuit peoples. Batty lived amongst these communities for over four decades, during which time she learned their languages, customs, and traditions. The book is divided into three parts, with the first part focusing on Batty's experiences living amongst the Cree people in Northern Quebec. She describes their way of life, their hunting and fishing practices, and their beliefs and traditions. The second part of the book details Batty's time living amongst the Inuit people in the Hudson Bay area. She writes about their nomadic lifestyle, their igloos, and their hunting practices. The third and final part of the book discusses Batty's work as a missionary amongst the Indigenous communities she lived with. She describes how she introduced Christianity to these communities and the challenges she faced in doing so. Throughout the book, Batty provides vivid descriptions of the landscapes and environments she encountered, as well as the wildlife and natural resources that sustained these communities.
