Four Plays: Bees, Duckies, Dragons, and Very Brave Children A Collection of One-Act Plays for Theatre for Young Audiences By Emily Ball Cicchini This collection of four dynamic and imaginative plays-originally commissioned and produced by Pollyanna Theatre Company in Austin, Texas-offers directors, designers, and actors rich material to engage young audiences with humor, music, heart, and purpose. Written by award-winning resident playwright Emily Ball Cicchini, each play is crafted to spark curiosity, empathy, and conversation, making this an ideal resource for theatre educators, directors, and TYA companies. Included in the collection: A Christmas Rose A historical WWII play filled with traditional French and German holiday music, bringing to life themes of resilience and generosity. Perfect for holiday seasons and cross-cultural learning. A Dragon's Happy Day An anachronistic, whimsical tale that celebrates difference and challenges expectations. A playful way to introduce ideas about inclusion, identity, and emotional growth. Duckie Sees the World Inspired by the real-life story of a lost shipment of bathtub toys that traveled the oceans, this adventurous play explores environmental themes, courage, and the joys of discovery. Just Bee A high-energy Ragtime and Boogie-Woogie musical adventure about bee conservation and female friendships. A sensory-rich story of belonging and self-expression that invites both laughter and reflection. Each script supports creative casting, imaginative staging, and thoughtful post-show discussions. Whether you're planning an in-school performance, a touring show, or a TYA mainstage production, this anthology provides a flexible and rewarding repertoire that celebrates the bravery and curiosity of young audiences. Ideal for TYA professionals, theatre educators, teaching artists, and directors seeking meaningful, performable scripts with humor, heart, and theatrical flair.
