If you have never heard of Monica Hooker, that's probably because she was known professionally as "Nela Perkins" (for obvious reasons). For several years, back in the mid-2000's, she co-anchored the local news for Channel 22, WODC in Washington D.C.. As you have probably guessed by now, this volume tells four different stories about Monica Hooker's television stint in the nation's capital, ultimately revealing more than you'd ever want to know about the woman Washingtonian Weekly readers named as the "WORST LOCAL NEWS PERSONALITY" four years in a row. In Monica Hooker, Monica-er, Nela, narrates her own account of one of the darkest periods of her career-her stint in rehab following a disastrous print interview. Tears of Gold backtracks several months, taking more objective look at het questionable behavior while taping a feature story on location in Canada-a piece which would ultimately earn Nela-er, Monica-a regional Emmy award. Taking place several months after her stint in rehab, Bobby Jr. finds Nela tentatively re-entering the dating world, as seen through the eyes of her lover of choice. Last, but not least, in Nela, an investigative journalist catches up with Monica, living a private, peaceful life in Florida, several years after quitting television entirely. Four stories, none of them true, focusing on the same person at four different points in her life, each story told from a different perspective.

Dee, Monique: - Monique Dee lives, loves, and expresses herself daily in Gulfport, Florida. She is also the author of Pixie, a novel in which Monica Hooker plays a significant supporting role. Monique liked the character so much, she wrote four more stories about her.
