Franz Grothe (1908-1982) gehört zu den bedeutenden Komponisten-Persönlichkeiten der deutschen Film- und Unterhaltungsmusik. Mit seinen Erfolgsmelodien für Film, Bühne, Schallplatte und Fernsehen, die bis heute populär geblieben sind, spielte er sich über ein halbes Jahrhundert hindurch in die Herzen der Menschen. Aus Anlass seines 100. Geburtstags wird das seit Jahren vergriffene Werkverzeichnis (1. Auflage 1988) im Herbst 2007 als neu aufgelegte Printausgabe wieder erhältlich sein. Das im Auftrag der Stiftung von Wolfgang Schäfer überarbeitete und erweiterte Verzeichnis umfasst Titelregister, Bühnenwerke, Filmographie und Fernsehproduktionen des Komponisten sowie erstmals eine umfangreiche Incipit-Sammlung und CD-Diskographie. Ergänzt wird die Dokumentation durch eine ausführliche Biografie über Franz Grothe, die Maurus Pacher unter dem Titel Auf den Flügeln realer Träume verfasst hat.

Die Franz Grothe-Stiftung wurde 1960 in Bad Wiessee von dem Komponisten Franz Grothe gegründet. Ihre Aufgaben sind u.a. Förderung der Tonkunst, Unterstützung befähigter und bedürftiger Komponisten, Musikstudierender und in Not geratener Berufsmusiker oder früherer Berufsmusiker und Künstler durch Zuwendungen. Pflege des Andenkens an Franz Grothe insbesondere durch Zuwendungen für die Erstellung von Publikationen über Leben und Werk Grothes, für musikalische Produktionen sowie durch die Verleihung eines Franz-Grothe-Preises.
