I. Will man die Soziologie Franz Oppenheimers thematisieren, so hat man eine in der aktuellen Fachgeschichtsschreibung weitgehend verdrängte Theorie zur Sprache zu bringen. Die für heute zu konstatierende Unbekanntheit Oppenheimers mu überra- schen: die nationaläkonomische und die politische Rezeption Oppenheimers reicht bis weit in die fünfziger Jahre hinein, auch fand er in der soziologischen Diskussion seiner Zeit Resonanz. War in der Zwischenkriegszeit von der "Frankfurter Schule" der Sozio- logie die Rede, so dachte man weniger an den Kreis um Griinberg und später Horkhei- mer, man konnte sie vielmehr "zu jener Zeit weitgehend mit dem Werk und Wirken Franz Oppenheimers identifizieren. " (Eisermann 1959, 60)1 Karl Mannheim (1969, 58) zählte Oppenheimers Arbeiten 1929 zu den "Standardwerken" der Soziologie; für 2 Adolph Löwe (1965, 141) galt er gar als "intellectual und moral peer" Max Webers - Solche Belege für Präsenz und Bedeutung des Soziologen Oppenheimer lie en sich beliebig vermehren; sie wurden allesamt formuliert von Vertretern jener intellek tuelIen Generation, deren Wirken in Deutschland vor dem Auswandern der Soziologie nach 3 1933 begann. Heute hingegen ist - auch im Kontext der engeren fachgeschichtli- chen Diskussion - eine weitgehende Nicht-Rezeption Oppenheimers zu konstatieren. In einem kürzlich erschienenen Sonderheft der "Kälner Zeitschrift i'ur Soziologie und Sozialpsychologie" zur Geschichte des Faches vor 1945 finden sich zu Oppen- heimer nur einige wenige Hinweise, findet sich an keiner Stelle eine ausflihrliche Be- schäftigung mit seinem Werk. Auch in anderen einschlägigen Arbeiten zur Fachge- schichte zielt das Interesse an Oppenheimer eher vorbei.
