Mit Beginn der neunziger Jahre lassen sich auch in Deutschland verst�rkt bedenkliche Auswirkungen des Bem�hens um "politische Korrektheit" registrieren. Was als Antidiskriminierungsstrategie gedacht war und gesell- schaftliche Minderheiten sch�tzen wie auch sozial Benachteiligten helfen sollte, entpuppt sich unversehens als Sprachregelungsanspruch, wenn nicht gar als Denkverbot und f�hrt h�ufig zu vorauseilender Selbstzensur. Die Gefahr besteht insbesondere dann, wenn historische Analysen der Entstehung und Entwicklung sozialer und politischer Bewegungen zu Zwecken der Traditionsstiftung mi braucht werden. Mit (un)sch�ner Regelm� igkeit werden die dunklen Kapitel verdr�ngt, es wird geklittert und abgeleugnet. Eine Legende entsteht. Dieses Buch leistet einer Legendenbildung um Ursachenzusammenh�nge der Frauenbewegung nicht nur keinen Vorschub, es thematisiert ausdr�cklich jene Diskrepanzen, Ambivalenzen und Widerspr�che der scheinbar unvertr�glichen Kombination rassenhygienisch-eugenischen und frauenemanzipatorischen Denkens der als "Radikale" bezeichneten 'linken' Gruppierung der Ersten deutschen Frauenbewegung. Um die Amalgamierung fortschrittlicher frauenpolitischer und konserva- tiv-rassistischer Elemente in der Position der "Radikalen" schwerpunktm�- Vorwort 10 ig am Beispiel Helene St�ckers analysieren zu k�nnen, werden vorab auch heute heftig umstrittene Themen des rassenhygienisch-eugenischen Diskurses er�rtert. Nach der Darstellung der historischen, gesellschaftlichen und wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen von Rassenhygiene und Eugenik und ihrer Entwicklung in Wilheminischer Zeit und in der Weimarer Republik wird im Gegensatz zur weit verbreiteten Sichtweise der soziologische Hintergrund des �blicherweise einseitig als biologistischesLegitimationsmuster etikettierten Sozialdarwinismus betont und der Nachweis des Wissenschaftschaftscharakters von Rassenhygiene und Eugenik gef�hrt. Nach der Rekonstruktion des Zusammenwirkens dieser Wissenschaften mit Sozialpolitik, Sozialkontrollinstanzen und Gesellschaftspolitik als moderner Form von Herrschaftsaus�bung erfolgt eine Darlegung der gesellschaftssanit�r-"ausmerzenden" Zielsetzungen im Rahmen der politisch fortschrittlichen Gesundheitspolitik.
