Vielfach wird darin kritisiert, dass ökonomische Systeme Ungleichheiten produzieren, etwa bei der Verfügbarkeit von Einkommen und Vermögen. Befürworter traditioneller marktwirtschaftlicher Konzepte argumentieren, dass diese Unterschiede auf die Natur des Menschen selbst zurückzuführen seien und daher nur die Realität der unterschiedlichen Leistungsbereitschaft beziehungsweise die individuelle Produktivität widerspiegeln würden. Kritiker sprechen dagegen von einem selbst produzierten, systemimmanenten Problem. In der aktuellen Debatte zeigen sich die unterschiedlichen Ideologien in besonderem Ma e am Zugang zu Wissen und Information. Häufig ist die Rede vom "digital divide", sprich von unterschiedlich gro en Chancen auf Zugang zu Wissen und die daran geknüpften persönlichen und sozialen Lebensverhältnisse. Wie dieses Problem zu lösen sei, bzw. wie der Zugang zu Wissen gehandhabt werden soll, ist hei umstritten. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll aufzeigen, welche Möglichkeiten sich für eine Gesellschaft in Bezug auf Wissen bieten. Dabei soll der traditionelle Ansatz im Sinne des ökonomischen Verwertungssystems ebenso zur Sprache kommen, wie die Idee einer freien Wissensgesellschaft. Wie noch zu sehen sein wird, spielen die Fragen "Wem gehört Wissen?" und "Wer kann darüber verfügen?" bei beiden Systemen eine entscheidende Rolle.
