Gerade auch, wenn es um unsere Freizeitgestaltung geht, soll alles immer noch schneller, weiter weg und erlebnisreicher werden. Belege hierfür finden sich zahlreich im Konsumverhalten und in der Werbung. Hier gilt oft die Devise: 'Darf's auch ein bisschen mehr sein?' und unsere Antwort ist zweifelsohne 'Ja'. Warum auch nicht, eigentlich könnten wir auch mit weniger zufrieden sein, aber wenn es uns schon so angeboten wird... Die zunehmende Bedeutung des Freizeitverkehrs ist die logische Folge und trotzdem wird er in der heutigen Forschung zumeist nachrangig behandelt. Ein Grund hierfür könnten Definitions- und Erfassungsschwierigkeiten sein. Dennoch, vor allem in Anbetracht der Diskussion um eine weniger umwelt- und gesundheitsschädliche Mobilität, sind Ansätze in diesem Bereich unumgänglich. Diese Arbeit versucht unter Anderem folgende Fragen zu beantworten: Was ist Freizeitverkehr? Welche Bedeutung kommt ihm zu? Warum sind wir eigentlich so fixiert auf die Mobilität in unserer Freizeit? Warum legen wir so häufig gro e oder auch kleine Strecken zurück? Warum fahren wir so häufig mit dem Auto? Welche Auswirkungen hat dieses Verhalten auf uns und unsere Umwelt? Was kann man für eine Verbesserung dieser Situation tun?
