Die Kritik, die Schiller übt, ist anonymisiert. Dennoch lassen sich gezielte unterschwellige Spitzen gegen Carl Eugen selbst erkennen. Die Arbeit hat zum Ziel, die Anklagen Schillers gegen seinen Landesherrn, die in "Kabale und Liebe" zum Ausdruck kommen, offenzulegen. Wie lauten die Anklagepunkte Schillers gegen das Gebaren höfisch-absolutistischer Herrscher? In welchen Ausschweifungen Carl Eugens finden sie ihre Entsprechung? Trifft manche Kritik Schillers möglicherweise andere Fürsten Deutschlands härter als den württembergischen? Nach einer Einführung in den Inhalt des Stückes (Abschnitt 2.1) wie in die württembergische Staatsverfassung (2.2) wird in Punkt 3 Person für Person untersucht, welche moralischen Verfehlungen die Charaktere Schillers als Abbilder klassischer Absolutisten begehen. Anschlie end folgt in Abschnitt 4 der Abgleich jener Eigenschaften und Handlungen mit den Umständen an Carl Eugens Hof in den Jahren 1744 bis 1782, bis zur Flucht Schillers aus Stuttgart.
