Die Studie beruht auf einem theoretischen Konzept. Sie ist so aufgebaut, dass der Leser Stück für Stück an das Thema herangeführt wird. Innerhalb der theoretischen Grundlagen wird das Basiswissen aufgebaut, das nötig ist, um die Zusammenhänge von FIS und der externen Informationsgewinnung zu verstehen. Zunächst wird der Informationsbegriff gegenüber dem Datenbegriff abgegrenzt und ein zusammenfassender Überblick auf Stichwörter wie Wissen, Information, Daten und Zeichen gegeben. Zusätzlich wird auf die Struktur von Daten, die Datenqualität, Qualitätsaktivitäten zur Verbesserung der Datenqualität sowie auf Informationsquellen eingegangen. In diesem Kapitel werden weiterhin Begriffe wie Information Retrieval definiert und erläutert, sowie die klassische Sichtweise der integrierten Informationsverarbeitung vorgestellt. Abschlie end wird das Controlling als Basis für FIS betrachtet. Nach dieser Grundsteinlegung wird auf FIS und deren Zusammenhang zur Business Intelligence sowie auf typische Funktionen und allgemeine Einsatzgebiete eines FIS eingegangen. Anhand von Anforderungen wird der technische Rahmen für ein FIS abgesteckt. Neben den meist intern ausgerichteten Einsatzgebieten eines FIS wird in dem Kapitel der externen Informationsgewinnung ein konkreter Überblick über relevante Führungsinformationen gegeben, die über externe Quellen abgefragt werden können. Der Zusammenhang der externen Informationsgewinnung zur integrierten Informationsverarbeitung wird durch ein Gesamtkonzept dargestellt. Zusätzlich wird unter Betrachtung der Datenqualität eine theoretische Anleitung gegeben, wie die Extraktion von Informationen aus Onlinedatenbanken und dem Internet sowie die Integration der gewonnenen Daten in ein Zielsystem erfolgen kann. Maik Discher, M.Sc., wurde 1978 in Templin geboren. Nach seiner Berufsausbildung zum Industriekaufmann, in einem der größten deutschen Recyclingunternemen und einer anschließenden Tätigkeit als Berater für IT- gestützte Wastemanagementprozesse, beschloss der Autor seine IT- Kenntnisse in einem Studium zu vertiefen. Das Wirtschaftsinformatik- Studium an der Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin beendete er erfolgreich 2006 mit dem Titel Bachelor of Science. Innerhalb dieses Studiums konnte der Autor durch Praktika im Controlling eines Versicherungsunternehmens und in der Entwicklungsabteilung eines IT- Dienstleisters wertvolle Erfahrungen in den Bereichen Informationsverarbeitung und Informationsmanagement sammeln. Zusätzlich zeigte der Autor während des Master Studiums großes Interesse an Themengebieten wie Web Content Mining, Information Retrieval und Contentmanagement. Gerade die Einblicke in das Controlling eines großen Versicherungskonzerns und die damit verbundenen Informationsflüsse, sowie die Möglichkeit aus dem Internet Business relevante Informationen zu erhalten waren die Idee für das Buch. Zurzeit ist Maik Discher als Business Analyst im Bereich Enterprise Content Management Systeme im Versicherungs- und Bankensektor tätig.
