Fundamentals of Nanoparticles: Classifications, Synthesis Methods, Properties and Characterization explores the nanoparticles and architecture of nanostructured materials being used today in a comprehensive, detailed manner. This book focuses primarily on the characterization, properties and synthesis of nanoscale materials, and is divided into three major parts. This is a valuable reference for materials scientists, and chemical and mechanical engineers working in R&D and academia, who want to learn more about how nanoparticles and nanomaterials are characterized and engineered.
Part one covers nanoparticles formation, self-assembly in the architecture nanostructures, types and classifications of nanoparticles, and signature physical and chemical properties, toxicity and regulations. Part two presents different ways to form nanometer particles, including bottom-up and top-down approaches, the classical and non-classical theories of nanoparticles formation and self-assembly, surface functionalization and other surface treatments to allow practical use. Part three covers characterization of nanoparticles and nanostructured materials, including the determination of size and shape, in addition to atomic and electronic structures and other important properties.
Barhoum, Ahmed: - Dr. Ahmed Barhoum is an Associate Professor of nanomaterials science and Head of the Nanostruc Research Group (Helwan University). He is currently working at the DCU University (Ireland). His research interests include the synthesis of nanomaterials for catalysis, drug delivery, and biosensing. He has won several scientific awards and prizes: Helwan University Prizes (Egypt, 2020 & 2019), CAS Fellowship (China, 2019), IFE Fellowships (France, 2012 & 2018), FWO Fellowships (Belgium, 2015 & 2016), Medastar Erasmus Mundus (Belgium, 2012), Welcome Program (Italy, 2012) and many more. He serves as an expert evaluator for the National Science Centre (NCN, Poland), Czech Science Foundation (GACR, Russia), Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF, Switzerland), and Innovators Support Fund (ISF, Egypt), among others. He is on the editorial board of Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, Frontiers in Nanotechnology, Nanomaterials, and editor of 10 handbooks (Elsevier and Springer Nature), PI/Co-PI of 12 projects, and co-author of 150 publications.
Makhlouf, Abdel Salam Hamdy: - Professor Abdel Salam Hamdy Makhlouf is the Vice President of Integrated Mechanical Material Corrosion Consulting (IM2C), Texas, USA, and a Full professor at Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute. He has 26 years of experience working in R&D with a blend of both industrial and academic leadership as a Professor of Materials Science, and Advanced "nano-bio" Manufacturing Engineering, and Materials Engineering Consultant. He is the recipient of numerous national and international prizes and awards including the Humboldt Research Award for Experienced Scientists, at Max Planck Institute, Germany; Fulbright, NSF, and Dept. of Energy Fellowships, USA; Shoman Award in Engineering Science; and the State Prize of Egypt in Advanced Science and Technology. His research has focused on five critical areas: Energy, Health, Environment, Advanced manufacturing, Advanced materials. Dr. Makhlouf has published over 200 journal articles, as well as 17 books and handbooks for Springer and Elsevier on a broad range of cross‐disciplinary research fields including advanced multifunctional materials, nanotechnology, smart coatings, corrosion, biomaterials, waste/water treatment, and materials for energy applications. Dr. Makhlouf has served as both a Senior Editor and board member of many international journals, as well as reviewer for several international funding agencies in USA, Germany, UK, Qatar, Belgium, EU, Kazakhstan. He is a Consultant/Reviewer for several universities worldwide.
