This is the 2025 edition of NYU professor Dr Maha Hosain Aziz's original 2019 seven-time award-winning book, FUTURE WORLD ORDER, which public intellectuals like Dr Ian Bremmer (author of 10 bestsellers and Founder of Eurasia Group) and Kishore Mahbubani (author of 11 bestsellers and Founding Dean of Lee Kuan Yew Public Policy School) called a "must-read". Dr Nouriel Roubini (NYU Professor Emeritus and CEO of Roubini Macro Associates) says Dr Aziz has "vision" and is a "global thinker to watch", while Dr Parag Khanna (author of 7 bestsellers and Founder of AlphaGeo) calls her "an engaged scholar activist".
In her 2019 bestseller, Dr Aziz predicted the world would be defined by a unique global legitimacy crisis in the 2020s. Norms in geopolitics, politics, economics and society would continue to be challenged, yet there would be no consensus. If it is not a US-led world anymore, who's in charge of the international system? If democracy is weakening, is there a better system to replace it? If globalization is failing some, is populism the answer? If liberal values are in decline, will xenophobia dominate? Dr Aziz argued that tech had already worsened all aspects of this unique global legitimacy crisis. But she also offered hope that in the future tech would be creatively leveraged to be part of the cure. In FUTURE WORLD ORDER: 2025 Edition, Dr Aziz revisits her original predictions, noting what she got right and wrong back in 2019. Reflecting on Trump 2.0, she reflects deeper into this decade to predict what else may be ahead. This updated edition aims to serve as a guide for all audiences to make better sense of the world at this sensitive global turning point. And it encourages readers to be more activist in shaping their future.
This book is the first in Dr Aziz's trilogy on global risk and future trends. Next is A GLOBAL SPRING: Predictions for the Era of Disruptors (2025) and 10 SHOCK EVENTS BY 2030 (2025). Her other books include seven-time award-winning The Global Kid: A Political Comic Book (2016) which she drew and its VR/AR version (2021) which won ten awards; she is also working on the generative AI-assisted political comic book about global extremism, Evolution (2025). Dr Aziz is also a risk and foresight expert at the World Economic Forum, a senior advisor in geopolitics at boutique firm Enlighten Advisory and co-chair in AI Policy at think tank the Digital Economist. She is a global citizen with Pakistani roots who lived in seven countries by age 14 (Jordan, Greece, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UK, Singapore, and the US).
