Es werden die aktuellen Technologien am Markt erläutert und erklärt, wovon der mögliche Erfolg von Steuerrungstechnologien im Heimgebrauch abhängt. Der Enterntainmentmarkt befindet sich in einem Umbruch, wie schon seit der Erfindung der 3D-Welten nicht mehr. Aktuelle Trends in Gaming befassen sich mit den Themen Augmented Reality (AR) und Virtual Reality (VR). Besonders VR erfordert ein Umdenken im Bereich der Steuerung, denn anders als vor einem Bildschirm, fühlt sich der Spieler im Mittelpunkt der Spielwelten anstatt vor einem Bildschirm. Das erfordert ebenso ein Umdenken bei den Steuergeräten, denn der Körper des Spielers muss mit seinen Bewegungen aufgenommen und in die Spielewelten übertragen werden. Während sich das klassische Gamepad bei Konsolen und die Maus in Kombination mit Tastatur, dessen Eingaben zu Aktionen auf einen Bildschirm überträgt, beim Personal Computer (PC) etabliert haben, erfordert VR ganz andere Technologien um Eingaben des Nutzers in den Einklang mit der Spielewelt zu bringen. So kann man Eingaben bei VR in zwei Kategorien einteilen: Den Tracking Technologien, bei denen der Körper und Bewegung des Anwenders aufgenommen und umgesetzt wird, und Walk Pads, die die endliche physische Umgebung in unendliche Bewegungsfreiheit für den Spieler ausweiten kann.
