DeWard is a former trainer for the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence where she provided national and statewide training about domestic violence advocacy and intimate partner sexual violence. She has worked as a counselor, support group facilitator, advocate, consultant, and grant writer in domestic violence programs in Michigan, South Carolina, and New York. Currently, Sarah works as a learning designer at the University of Michigan's Ross Office of Digital Education.
