Dieser Band stellt sieben (Projekte für) öffentliche Bauten vor, die im deutschsprachigen Raum von 2002 bis 2007 entstanden sind und in deren Entstehungsprozess Gender Mainstreaming eine Rolle gespielt hat. In einem Fall wurde eine Raum- und Nutzungsanalyse für ein Amtshaus durchgeführt (St. Gallen, CH), in anderen Fällen wurden neue Bauten für Bildung (Olten, CH), Gesundheit (Erlangen, D), Kultur (Berlin, D) und Verwaltung (Innsbruck, A; Braunschweig, D) geplant, einmal ging es um einen neuen Bushof mit unterirdischer öffentlicher Tiefgarage (Schaan, FL). Die Gender-Begleitung setzte dabei zu ganz unterschiedlichen Zeitpunkten ein. Die Ergebnisse sind jedoch nicht (nur) davon abhängig, zu welchem Zeitpunkt die Gender-Beratung einsetzte: Deutlich wird, dass die Grundhaltung der Trägerinstitutionen, die Überzeugung der Führungskräfte bzw. der politische Wille einen ganz wesentlichen Teil zum Gelingen einer gendergerechten Planung und Gestaltung beiträgt. Die in allen Projekten entstandenen Checklisten, Kriterienkataloge oder Score Cards sind Bestandteil der Dokumentation und können als Grundlage für eine entsprechende Bearbeitung künftiger Bauprojekte dienen.

Die Herausgeberin: Barbara Zibell, geboren 1955, Prof. Dr. sc. techn., Bauassessorin Städtebau, ist Professorin für Planungs- und Architektursoziologie an der Fakultät für Architektur und Landschaft der Leibniz Universität Hannover. Sie ist Vorsitzende des 'Forum für GenderKompetenz in Architektur Landschaft Planung' an der Leibniz Universität Hannover, ständiger Gast der Kommission 'Frauen in der Stadt' des Deutschen Städtetages sowie Inhaberin zahlreicher Ehrenämter in wissenschaftlichen Beiräten und Kommissionen.
