Brigadier (Dr) Kuldip Singh Gulia is a noted and active environmentalist. A PhD. In Himalayan Studies from the Centre for Himalayan Studies, University of North Bengal, he has carried out a deep research on the human and physical ecosystem of Himalayan Ranges. His work on the Autochthones of Sikkim Himalayas and his description of the Monasteries and Gompas of all sects of Buddhism have earned him a wide acclaim. A author commanded a Bridage in Gujrat immediately in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 26 January 2001. Involved, as he was, in the postdisaster management in Gujrat in his capacity as a Brigade Commander, he took a queue from the horrifying events, and carried out a wide ranging research on the subject of disaster and destruction from the evolution of the humans, to the present day. Some of his research papers on the human ecosystem of the Aric Zone of the Indian Thar Desert make an interesting study. He is presently working on the subject of cultural diversity and culturtal diffusion in the Indian society.
