Angefangen bei einer Orthographie, die sich von der heutigen (bezieht man sich nur auf den deutschen Sprachraum) weitgehend unterscheidet, bis hin zu den Rechtschreibreformen der letzten Jahrzehnte. Nicht anders liegt es mit der Getrennt- und Zusammenschreibung; wurde zu den Anfängen der Schriftsprache noch am Stück geschrieben, sieht es heute ganz anders aus, sodass einzelne Wörter auseinander geschrieben werden müssen. Doch spätestens hier stellt sich dann die Frage - und damit ist man schon mitten in der Thematik der Arbeit - wann ist ein Wort ein Wort? Im Verlauf dieser Arbeit soll sich unter anderem dieser Frage zugewandt werden. Jedoch nach Beantwortung dieser Frage entstehen zwangsläufig weitere Fragen. Es geht daher weiterhin darum, entlang der Problematiken der Getrennt- und Zusammenschreibung eine Systematisierung der zugrunde liegenden Regeln unter Rückgriff auf die Grammatik zu finden, um dann die Theorie und die Praxis miteinander zu vergleichen und damit mögliche didaktische Umsetzungen zu analysieren.
