Six years ago, during a family cruise, I met someone on the picturesque Caribbean island of Sint Maarten aka "The Friendly Island." What began as a chance encounter blossomed into a relationship and we navigated the miles between Sint Maarten and my home in California.

September 2022 began as a routine visit but fate had other plans. Traveling amidst hurricane season always carries its uncertainties, yet nothing could prepare me for the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Amidst the impending chaos of Ian's approach toward Sint Maarten, the airline's unexpected offer of complimentary travel date changes applicable to my original departure window, prompted me to extend my stay. Little did I know, this decision would mark the beginning of unforeseen events.

My life has been filled with remarkable adventures but this is one I never could have imagined. Through it all, my faith in God was tested, trusting him to guide me through every challenge toward a greater purpose. Though there were moments when I faltered in my faith, God never lost sight of me. (Mark 5:36 - "Do not be afraid. Just have faith.")

This book is dedicated to my daughter, who suffered most through this ordeal. About one month before my arrest, she started her senior year of high school, so much fun and excitement laid ahead for her as she was about to finish one chapter in her life and begin another. I've been a single mom and without our bond, her strength, love and support, I'm not sure I would have pulled through as I did.

This is my journal, dripped with bits of sarcasm because, well, that's me; my experience spending 6 months and 12 days in prison in Sint Maarten and the months that followed.
