Ghetto Comedies is a collection of short stories written by Israel Zangwill, published in 1907. The book is a humorous portrayal of Jewish life in the ghettos of London during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the old definition a comedy could be distinguished from a tragedy by its happy ending. Dante's Hell and Purgatory could thus appertain to a comedy. This is a crude conception of the distinction between tragedy and comedy, which Zangwill ventured to disregard, particularly in the last of these otherwise unassuming stories situated in the London Ghetto.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
