About The Book

Die Kieler Fachtagung "Struktur und Betrieb von Rechensystemen" ist die sechste Veranstaltung dieser Art, die gemeinsam von den Fachaus- schUssen "Rechnerorganisation und Betriebssysteme" der Gesellschaft fUr Informatik (GI) und "Technische Informatik" der Nachrichtentech- nischen Gesellschaft (NTG) in zweijahrigem Abstand seit 1970 veran- staltet wird. Die enge Verflechtung zwischen Rechnerstrukturen und Betriebssystemen, die in dieser gemeinsamen Tagung zum Ausdruck ge- bracht wird, hat in der "vertikalen Verlagerung" einen neuen sicht- baren Ausdruck erhalten. Auf beiden Gebieten finden in zunehmender Zahl Spezialtagungen zu Einzelfragen statt. Das Ziel dieser Tagungsreihe soll es dagegen sein, Ubersichten Uber aktuelle Fragen des Gesamtgebietes zu vermitteln, auch wenn es dadurch zu thematischen Uberschneidungen mit anderen Veranstaltungen kommt. Alle Sitzungen werden deshalb durch Ubersichts- vortrage oder eine EinfUhrung des Sitzungsleiters eingeleitet. Oem gleichen Ziel dient auch ein begleitendes Tutorium Uber "Virtuelle Maschinen". Die Tagung soll aber auch ein Podium zum Vorstellen und Diskutieren neuer Forschungsergebnisse, En wicklungen und Ideen durch Fachvortrage sein. Fachvortrage wurden vom ProgrammausschuB zu sechs Themenkreisen ange- regt, die abkUrzend beschrieben werden konnen durch: Entwurf, Bewer- tung, Modellierung; horizontale Verlagerung; Kommunikation; Zuver las- sigkeit; innovative Architekturen; neue Systeme. Ubergreifend wurde auf die GroBintegration und die Mikroprogrammierung verwiesen. Aus den eingereichten Vortragen konnten nach einer strengen qualitativen Auswahl sechs Sitzungen zusammengestellt werden, die im wesentlichen die ersten drei Themenkreise berUcksichtigen.
