Obwohl es spätestens am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts statistisch bewiesen war, da sich Männer und Frauen gleicherma en des Giftes als Mordmittel bedienen, war man sich in Wissenschaft, Literatur und Publizistik bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein darüber einig, da der Giftmord als eine 'Domäne des Weibes' anzusehen sei. Die Grundlage dieses Giftmord-Stereotyps bilden Vorstellungen vom 'Wesen des Weibes' bzw. der Psychologie der Frau: auf Grund ihrer körperlichen und seelischen Schwäche (Mangel an Mut und Kraft) sowie ihrer Nähe zur Geschlechtlichkeit (Vergiften als 'wollüstiger Kitzel') greife die Frau quasi naturgemä zum heimtückischen Gift. Einen entscheidenden Anteil an der Formation des Giftmord-Stereotyps hatte zudem die Pitavaltradition, die diese Vorstellungen mit literarischen Verbrecherbildern (gro e und gemeine Verbrecherinnen) verquickte und deren Falldarstellungen (z.B. Brinvillier, Zwanziger, Ursinus und Gottfried) von Fachwissenschaften und Publizistik stets als Beispiele für 'typisch weibliche Giftmischerinnen' herangezogen wurden. Hierbei sorgten die Fachwissenschaften durch neue wissenschaftliche Erklärungsmuster für eine beständige Aktualisierung des Stereotyps. Insgesamt konnte in der vorliegenden diskurstheoretisch und interdisziplinär orientierten Studie anhand der Auseinandersetzung mit Pitavalgeschichten, Proze berichten, wissenschaftlichen Texten usw. zu Giftmordfällen verschiedener historischer Zeiträume gezeigt werden, da das tradierte Giftmordwissen in einem beständigen Austausch- und Verweiszusammenhang zwischen Fachwissenschaft, 'schöner Literatur', Publizistik und Alltagswissen formiert, legitimiert und fortgeschrieben wurde.
