Barkha Sharma has a unique gift to connect with young readers through her writing. Children can become little yogis by learning how to balance all the five tattvas (elements of nature) and attaining not only an equilibrium in life, but also the strength and skills to achieve their dreams and become strong leaders in a brighter, loving and peaceful world.
Barkha has imbued her professional and creative pursuits with her own spiritual beliefs to create a confluence of art and yoga. The primary goal is to help kids flourish by inculcating a sense of yogic discipline and artistic creativity, while being one with nature. Barkha’s book is inspired by the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) from the Maha Upanishad. The adage conceptualizes a world without boundaries where beauty, love, light and secrets of selfactualization are unlocked through the ancient tool of yoga and a balanced approach to happiness.

Barkha Sharma is an accomplished designer, classical dancer and yoga practitioner. Since childhood, Barkha has been learning yoga from various schools and institutes, especially The Yoga Institute, Mumbai. After completing her B.Sc. degree from Purdue University and a marketing programme from the Wharton Business School, she also completed an entrepreneurship programme with the Harvard University.

Her passion and adventurism led her to become a certified skydiver, and study Iaido (a form of sword fighting), etching in calligraphy with a sword and Tibetan meditation. All her influences are imbued with a spiritual aura. “Barkha ‘n’ Sonzal” is a fashion label that she co-founded with her sister, their designs and brand were the first to be selected to represent India at the prestigious ‘International Woolmark Award’ in the menswear category. Barkha was also selected for a furniture design research programme course for ‘Christies, New York’, at a young age, but she opted out to learn dance in Kerala and work on the local crafts. She is also a kalaripaiyatt artist from CVN Kalari. Belonging to a family of musical legends, Barkha has featured in the album Confluence 2 with her husband, the santoor maestro Rahul Sharma. She has trained in instrumental music and also learnt the tanpura from her father-in-law, the legendary musician Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, and accompanies her family on stage all over the world for select concerts. ‘Yug O’ Vision’, a yoga anthem, was launched on the Yoga International Day in 2018, featuring Barkha as a classical danseuse performing yoga. The album was presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Currently, Barkha resides with her husband and their seven-year-old son in Mumbai, India.
