Seit die Globalisierung in den letzten Jahrzehnten in einem immer schneller werdenden Tempo voranschreitet, der globale Warenhandel, die Finanztransfers und die Migration stetig steigen, ist auch das Thema der globalen Ungleichheit in das Blickfeld der ökonomischen Forschung gerückt. Die Analyse ungleicher Verhältnisse kann sich auf eine Gruppe, eine Nation oder auch global zwischen Nationen beziehen und dabei die Bereiche der Einkommensverteilung, den Zustand des Gesundheitswesens, des Bildungswesens, des technischen Fortschritts sowie die Investitionstätigkeit untersuchen. Gibt es Unterschiede zwischen den Geschlechtern oder zwischen der Stadt- und Landbevölkerung? Wie wirkt sich die Globalisierung auf die Ungleichheit im allgemeinen aus - nimmt die Ungleichheit zu, geht sie zurück oder bleibt sie unverändert - und welche Lösungsansätze werden diskutiert, um der aktuellen globalen Ungleichheit entgegenzuwirken? In dieser Arbeit wird ein grober Einblick in die Problematik der globalen Ungleichheit gegeben. Zuvor ist es jedoch notwendig, im nächsten Abschnitt auf die Methoden und die Probleme bei der Messung von Ungleichheit einzugehen.
