Während traditionelle Wirtschaftstheorien einen sehr engen Interpretationsrahmen des Begriffs 'Utility' hatten, legen neuere Theorien nahe, dass der Nutzenbegriff neu definiert werden muss. Die Forschung auf dem Feld des Subjective Well-Being zeigt, dass subjektive wie objektive Daten über Zufriedenheit hohe wissenschaftliche Relevanz besitzen und gro en Einfluss auf das Individuum, die Gesellschaft und die Wirtschaft haben. Mittlerweile wurde das Interesse der Politik geweckt und Wirtschafts-Nobelpreisträger wie Daniel Kahneman und Joseph Stiglitz forschen intensiv an diesem Thema. Die vorliegende Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über die Methodik der Studies of Happiness und erläutert die gewonnen Erkenntnisse dieser jungen Wissenschaft. Es wird nicht nur eine kurze historische Aufarbeitung des Begriffs 'Glück' vorgenommen, sondern auch die Unzulänglichkeit traditioneller Wohlstandsindikatoren aufgezeigt. Nachdem die Validität der vorhandenen Methoden zur Erhebung von Daten über Zufriedenheit (z.B. Day Reconstruction Method, Experience Sampling Method und U-Index) diskutiert wurde, werden diverse relevante Irrationalitäten und Phänomene der menschlichen Psyche beleuchtet. Begriffe wie der Anticipation Error oder die Hedonic Treadmill werden näher ausgeführt. Au erdem werden Auswirkungen auf verschiedenste Bereiche des Menschen wie z.B. Gesundheit, Religion, Persönlichkeit und Arbeit, aber auch die Wirkung auf Wirtschaft und Politik untersucht. Der letzte Abschnitt behandelt kontroverse Spezialfragen der Forschung wie den Zusammenhang zwischen Geld und Zufriedenheit, und vergleicht die verschiedenen Standpunkte von Spezialisten wie Diener et al., Easterlin et al. und Sacks et al. Die kompakte Abhandlung über die Erkenntnisse der Wissenschaft zum Thema Happiness macht deutlich, dass Glück längst keine persönliche Sache mehr ist,

Dominik Zellhofer, BSc (WU), wurde 1988 in Waidhofen an der Thaya, Niederösterreich, geboren. Der Autor schloss das Bachelorstudium der Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften an der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien im Jahr 2012 ab, im Zuge dessen er ein Semester an der University of British Columbia absolvierte. In seinem Studium spezialisierte sich der Wirtschaftsstudent auf KMU-Management und verhaltenswissenschaftlich orientiertes Management, wodurch er auch auf das Thema des vorliegenden Buches aufmerksam wurde.
