God's Grace to Thrive with Chronic Pain is not a how-to book with strategies to lessen or end our pain. Rather it shows us how not to get tangled in pain's downward spiral into self-pity, despair, hopelessness, and misery. Barbara L. Scott speaks from her weakness: "I've prayed, fasted, and asked God for healing every day for more than six years. . .but I've also whined, begged, and nagged at God like a little child." She describes chronic pain as "a monster that gains strength" the more we dwell on it until literally, we are captives. She is unashamed to expose her own wounds to help others survive - and thrive! "Many godly people have laid hands on me, anointed me with oil, and my husband has faithfully petitioned God on my behalf," Scott says. However, like many of us, she continues to ask, "Why hasn't God chosen to heal me?" Part of the answer may be found in the journey she describes in God's Grace to Thrive with Chronic Pain.

Barbara Scott and her husband, Gary, reside in Redmond, WA. Married for 43 years, they have two sons and four grandchildren. In her first book, From Rubble to Restoration, Barbara tells the dramatic story of their family's terrible undoing and divinely orchestrated reconstruction. The Adoption Club, Barbara's second book, is a novel about a 6-year-old girl who is abandoned and placed in an orphanage. This story occurs during the Great Depression era when times were hard. Bernice was adopted when she was eight. Although this is a novel, it is based on the life of Barbara's mother. Barbara's short story, "The Girl That Pierced My Heart," was published in Dr. Gary Chapman's book: Love is a Verb, released May 1, 2009, by Bethany House. For eight years, the Scotts served with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) at their headquarters and flagship campus at the University of the Nations (U of N) in Kona, Hawaii. They have traveled extensively in the United States, The Philippines, Korea and Thailand speaking in churches, YWAM bases and other ministries. While in Kona, Barbara wrote many articles for YWAM's web site and U of N's international magazine, Transformations. Barbara's passion is to inspire others through her writing to find God and experience His ability to work all things together for good.
