About The Book

The word "fabric" in the title of this book does not represent cloth but structure, framework, construction, and foundation.These are the defining qualities that a town is built upon.

There are eleven short stories that are not strictly history in the sense of the word, but my selection of interesting events that occurred in Goshen. Three of the short stories are my individual experiences: Case Cemetery, Haunted Farmhouse and Mystery at Viking Hill Farm. Dutchess Quarry Caves is an important archeological site pertaining to the first inhabitants of Goshen from the Ice Age, 12,500 years ago. The town is at attention waiting for Goshen's decision on how they will manage the situation.

Around Goshen there are 32 historical markers. A marker contains a summary about people, places and events that occurred at that location. I have selected fifteen of those markers to tell the whole story.

About The Author

Rothenberger, Sandra: - Life is like a thousand-piece puzzle. Find a piece and life continues. Sometimes, finding a piece that fits is elusive. Eventually, it's found. I grew up in the country and became a 'country girl.' My interests were history, old things, nature and animals. Others could have the fast life of the cities, noise, crowds, and people frantically trying to get somewhere.After getting married in 1971, we purchased a gentlemen's farm with an old stone farmhouse and barn in Worcester, Pennsylvania. It was falling apart, and I loved the challenge of restoring it. I went to Orphans Court in Philadelphia to find the original deed. The land was a grant from William Penn, soldiers from the American Revolution were buried on the property, and the house was dated 1786.My daughter Amanda was born in 1979 and also embraced country life. We would sit on the back porch and enjoy our ice cream, eat watermelon and carve our Halloween pumpkins. She called the chickens cluck clucks and named our two pigs Runt and Grunt. She grew up with several dogs and many cats. I sent her to an exclusive private school for her education. With her upbeat personality, she quickly made friends with everyone. Her classmates drove expensive cars, and Amanda drove a blue pick-up truck with a red fender. They all wanted to ride in her pick-up truck and would fill up the gas tank for the privilege.After 26 years, I filed for divorce and left our restored farmhouse behind. I moved to Goshen, New York to be near my daughter and son-in-law. I fell in love with the historical town of Goshen.
