This is the first book in the 'Granule Speck' series of books. Based around the present day, we find that young Harry, whilst playing with friends in the Daring Forest, wanders accidentally into the old and ancient part of the woods. This is the core of the Daring Forest and an area that most people try to avoid. They say that the old and ancient woods are haunted, and some believe that bad spirits dwell within the gnarled and distorted branches of the ancient trees. Whilst there, Harry stumbles across an old sleeping hobgoblin by the name of Granule Speck. Granule has lived within the old and ancient woods for more years than he can remember, in fact even longer than most of the trees and has become something of a guardian to all living things within the woodland. Harry together with his neighbour and best friend Kelly form a close relationship with the happy little hobgoblin. Listening to his stories and playing with all the wild woodland animals. Watching all of this from his high vantage point in the tallest trees are a pair of deep, red eyes. These eyes belong to a sinister, malevolent being, created centuries before by an evil sorceress and named 'Ichkin'. This is an age old story of good over evil, of the bonding of lasting friendships, together with the beginnings of a flourishing young love.
