About The Book

A devastating accident at the Magnetic Mirror fusion reactor in Palo Alto in 1977 sets off a chain of events that will echo for decades. Amid the wreckage, Laubner Labs engineers Dave Holland and Cory Hapner uncover a handful of strange luminescent stones-objects that defy known physics and whose true significance will not be understood until long after the investigation ends.

Twenty-five years later, Ray Holland and his new wife Tessa are pulled into a mystery that begins the day before their wedding. When FBI agents question Tessa about a recent accident at the company she left shortly before an explosion, they claim to be investigating possible sabotage. Tessa had warned the plant about safety issues before resigning, but now the agents use her departure as a pretext to pressure her-and to get inside the Holland home to learn more about Ray's experimental "Gravity Gone" project.

A breakthrough patent sale gives Tessa and Ray financial breathing room, but also attracts attention from people who want the stones-and Ray's work-for themselves. Ray's first prototype, GG-1, launches itself on a wild, uncontrolled flight over the Pacific, forcing Ray and Tessa to retrieve it near the Farallon Islands. Their activities soon bring them face-to-face with Victor Mishkin, a menacing figure with shadowy ties to Laubner Labs and an obsessive interest in Ray's discoveries.

Determined to understand the stones' power, Ray builds a second device, GG-2, and tests it deep in the desert. The experiment goes catastrophically wrong, opening a vertical shaft of unknown depth and nearly pulling Ray into it. Only Tessa's quick action saves him-though not without cost.

Mishkin's pursuit escalates into threats and coercion, culminating in a deadly confrontation inside an abandoned helicopter factory. Cornered and out of options, Ray turns GG-1 against Mishkin, unleashing a force so powerful it kills him instantly and leaves investigators baffled by the explosion's origin. The FBI uncovers links between Mishkin, Russian weapons dealers, and the mysterious stones, but with no clear answers, they close the domestic case and hand the international threads to another division.

With the danger seemingly behind them, Ray and Tessa try to rebuild their lives as they prepare for the arrival of their first child. Yet Ray cannot let go of the stones' potential. Quietly, he plans to continue his research-setting the stage for future discoveries, deeper mysteries, and the next chapter in the Gravity Gone saga.
