Greek for Preachers sets out to bring the Greek text of the New Testament within reach of anyone who wishes to explore itsriches. A knowledge of basic Greek grammar can illuminate scripture passages for preachers seeking a better understanding of the Bible and fresh perspectives for faithful sermons. While English translations are valuable, they often face challenges in interpretation and communication.

Authors Joseph Webb and Robert Kysar divided Greek for Preachers into three parts. The first part introduces essential tools, such as reference books and the Greek alphabet. It emphasizes the importance of familiarizing oneself with Greek sounds and pronunciation.

The second part outlines ten rules or principles for working with an interlinear Greek-English text. These principles open up the text for clarification and enrichment, focusing on grammar and syntax. Each chapter in this section includes examples from the New Testament, along with sermonic suggestions.

The third part guides preachers on how to use Greek in sermon preparation. It offers a process for reading, translating, and deriving meaning from a passage. It also discusses cautions to avoid pitfalls in using Greek in preaching.

Kysar, Robert: - Robert Kysar is a retired professor of Preaching and New Testament from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Atlanta, GA. Robert has published several books including Greek for Preachers and Stumbling in the Light: New Testament Images for a Changing Church from Chalice Press.

Webb, Joseph M.: - Joseph M. Webb has taught for more than three decades at numerous colleges and universities, including Pepperdine University, California State University (Northridge, San Bernardino), and Southern Illinois University. He has founded and administered media programs at two Christian institutions, Milligan College in East Tennessee and Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida.

In addition, his academic work has been largely in applying communications to the process of Christian preaching, following five years of teaching homiletics at the Claremont School of Theology. He joined the faculty at Gardner-Webb University in 2007.
