Ist es möglich, die Erderwärmung und die damit verbundenen Klimaschäden durch Investitionen in nachhaltige Finanzprodukte einzudämmen? Der thematische Schwerpunkt zeichnet sich durch das Finanzprodukt der Green Bonds (deutsch: grüne Anleihe) ab. Zur Beantwortung der Frage wird vor allem die Messung von Green Bonds eine Rolle spielen. Dabei wird untersucht, ob Anleihen wirklich grün sind und welche positiven Effekte von ihnen ausgehen. Eine Transformation des bestehenden Finanzsystems, welches momentan vor allem auf fossile Brennstoffe fokussiert ist, hin zu einem nachhaltigen Finanzsystem, durch das weltweit beispielsweise erneuerbare Energien gefördert werden, ist dringend notwendig. Damit diese Transformation gelingt, müssen Finanzströme umgestaltet und Anreize für Akteure geschaffen werden. An dieser Stelle bekommt der Begriff Green Finance zum Einsatz, der die zuvor genannte Zielsetzung beschreibt. Green Finance Investitionen sollen der Umwelt und der Gesellschaft zugutekommen und die globalen Klimaziele somit unterstützen. Die neu konzipierte Studiengruppe Green Finance Study Group der G20 Staaten unter der chinesischen Leitung soll die Aufgabe der Umstrukturierung der Finanzwelt übernehmen und im besten Fall dabei noch das Klima retten. Diese Vereinigung verfolgt dazu eine Vielzahl freiwilliger Ma nahmen, die sich sowohl mit den Prinzipien von Green Finance beschäftigen als auch Voraussetzungen schaffen, um Märkte dabei zu unterstützen grenzüberschreitende Investitionen in grüne Anleihen durchzuführen.
